LHAT’s 30th Anniversary Conference & Theatre Tour
Turning 30 in Hollywood: Celebrating the Movement that's Saving Historic American Theatres and Movie Palaces, 1976-2006
July 18-22, 2006
Renaissance Hollywood Hotel
Los Angeles, CA

LHAT Vice President Jim Boese speaks at the Closing Night Banquet.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make this event a success!
Based on attendees' comments and evaluations, the conference was a great success, affording historic theatre representatives, service providers, suppliers, government officials and individuals the chance to:
- Network with their peers to share information, advice and experiences about the topics of most interest to them during Peer Discussion Breakfasts and Nuts & Bolts Sessions.
- Attend professional development sessions about rescue, restoration and operations topics presented by some of the field's best practitioners
- Meet the professional providers and suppliers who serve the field
- Tour the area's landmark theatres.
Conference delegates enjoy the opening night reception at the Kodak Theatre.
More about the 2006 conference:
- Attending were 217 delegates from 37 different U.S. states and the District of Columbia, plus individuals from Great Britain and Canada. More than 83 different historic theatres were represented, along representatives from more than 42 different service providers and suppliers, not to mention individuals, nonprofit preservation associations and government agencies.
- For 36% of the attendees, this was their first time attending an LHAT Annual Conference.
- The Pre-conference Theatre Ramble took 52 delegates to visit several theatres outside of L.A., including: The Alex Theatre in Glendale; the Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena; the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena; the Fox Theatre in Fullerton; and the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro.
- Tours during the main conference included: Hollywood’s El Capitan, Grauman’s Egyptian, Hollywood Pacific, Henry Fonda Music Box and Pantages Theatres. Just outside Hollywood, we toured Wiltern LG Theatre and the Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills. In downtown L.A.’s Broadway District, we toured the Orpheum, the State, the Palace and the Los Angeles Theatres.
- We offered 10 professional development workshops covering issues related to rescue and restoration or historic theatre operation and sustainability. In addition, we held two facilitated nuts and bolts sessions to continue the issues raised during the breakfast discussions.
- Our keynote address was delivered by the dynamic Murray Horwitz, Director of the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD.
- We hosted another successful Meet the LHAT Service Providers reception (the sixth annual!) on the opening afternoon of the conference with more than 25 service providers and suppliers acting as hosts.
We ended the event with the traditional Closing Night Reception and 2006 Annual Awards Banquet. Click here to read more about the 2006 winner!
